| No Rite of Masonry has come into
its own in recent years so much as the series of degrees known as CRYPTIC
MASONRY. Its particularity is well deserved, for the most beautiful degrees in all Masonry are those conferred in the council of Cyptic Masons. There are many reasons for the popularity of these degrees. In the first place it is the completion of a story of the preservation of the word or a Masonic Allegory. Symbolic Masonry teaches of the loss of the word. Royal Arch Masonry teaches of its recovery and of its preservation, thus rounding out the story of the word and completing the story of Ancient Craft Masonry. The first degree is the Royal Master degree. Candidates who receive it are impressed with its dignified ritual & teachings. The lecture of the degree is an explanation of the articles contained in the Holy of Holies of the Temple, including the Ark of the Covenant, a knowledge of which is essential to those who could fully understand the proceedings. The principal characters in the degree are Solomon & his royal associates. The second degree of this system is the SELECT MASTER DEGREE . The scene of this degree is set in an underground vault and the events which characterize the degree are stirring enough to make it one of intense interest. The last or third degree in the Cryptic Rite is the Super Excellent Masters degree. The Super Excellent degree is one of the most dramatic and impressive in all of Freemasonry. It requires a large, well rehearsed cast. All Select Masters owe it to themselves to witness this degree if at all possible. |
